The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic by Breanne Randall
There are few things in life that hurt worse than a broken heart. Whether it’s losing someone in death, or losing someone to events of life, a heartbreak hurts. I have to say, that personally, I would rather have a physical injury, than have to emotionally “heal” or learn to live without someone. At least the physical pain lessens with time.
This book is a whirl wind! I related to the main character so much at the time because I was going through a breakup/healing stage of my own. Sadie had struggled with many relationships most of her life, but forming a strong bond with her grandmother and brother. Her parents disappearing when her and her twin brother were young.
As with most families’ relationships are tested in odd ways. It was no different for Sadie and her family and friends. She has an extra twist that does not make things easier. However, sometimes those tests can make relationships stronger than we could dream of.
The author Breanne Randall does a great job showing what some people view as a weakness, is actually strength. How people who are self-aware, selfless, and empathetic struggle when it comes to the inner turmoil they can face. The picture is painted clearly in this story and has you rooting for Sadie in more ways than one.
There is one line that stand out to me from the book; “Hold on to hope no matter the cost, because as long as there’s hope, everything else is just the unfortunate side effects of heartbreak and magic.”. That line alone makes this a must read!
As an added bonus recipes are provided throughout the book. What better way to deal with the traumatic events of life, and quality bonding moments than with some good comfort food!
